Option values

You can attach a number to each choice in a Dropdown or Multiple choice field — a price, a rate, or a score — and then use the value of whatever's selected in a calculation.

Assigning values

Select the dropdown field and, under its options on the Basic tab, turn on "Assign a value to each option." A small $ box appears next to every option — enter the number for each. Options you leave blank simply have no value.

Using the value in a calculation

In a calculated number field, add an option value operand (the "+ Option value" button, shown as "Value of {dropdown}"). It resolves to the number assigned to the option the submitter picks.

Example. A "Meal type" dropdown with Breakfast = 10, Lunch = 12, Dinner = 18, plus an "Attendees" number field. A "Cost" field set to Multiply of Attendees × Value of Meal type gives the meal cost for the chosen option — 50 attendees at lunch → 600.

Good to know

  • The value is just data behind the option — submitters see the option label, not the number.
  • If the chosen option has no value assigned, a calculation that uses it stays blank.
  • This is the recommended way to do per-choice pricing — keep the numbers on the options rather than maintaining a separate table.
