Strata Pass

For teachers

Your home is Pass in the module switcher. One page: who is out of your room, who is late, what is coming up, the day's history, and your kiosk.

The dashboard

One bar across the top holds every control. The pills pick the view: My Passes, All Passes if you hold Monitor passes or Pass site administration, and Appointments. The Show menu picks what to show: Active is every student out from your room, oldest first, plus any appointment on your room due within fifteen minutes (with Send now), with where they went, when they left, and how long they have been gone against the limit (a row turns to Due when the time limit is reached); Ended is today's closed passes with who closed each one, newest first, or this week's or all of them (a long list shows the newest, and a line under it says how many there are); Active & Ended is both. Appointments scheduled on your room, with Send now (it opens 30 minutes before the time), are under the Appointments view, at the school picked. The search box filters whatever is showing. On the right: the day, the school (when you have more than one), the chimes button, your kiosk chip (how many devices are showing your kiosk, the code, and Regenerate) and New pass. A pass another teacher sent to your room, or to a location you are assigned to, is under My Passes too; it shows who sent it. So is a pass a student started at the kiosk of a location you are assigned to. Each row carries only the buttons for your seat at that stage: as the teacher the student comes back to, Returned (on a layover, only once the destination has sent the student back); as the destination, Arrived, then on a layover Send back, after which the pass leaves your list. An appointment you scheduled for another room stays on your list to watch; its buttons belong to that room. People with Pass site administration have End on every pass at their site; End asks no reason. Monitor passes alone shows the passes with no buttons. If the dashboard stops updating, a line at the top says Not updating, with Reload; when your sign-in has ended, the page reloads to the sign-in page by itself.

New pass

Click New pass on the dashboard. Now starts a pass; Later schedules an appointment. Type a name or student number; the list opens as you type. Pick a place, or another room from the list. The time limit comes from the place (or the site's limit for teacher passes); you can change it for this pass. Add note adds a short note that shows on the pass. Start pass starts it right away.

If someone in the student's party pass group is already at that place, the dialog says so. You can still start the pass; the override is recorded with your name. A student who is already out cannot get a second pass from anyone: the dialog says where they are, and that pass has to end first. The kiosk cannot override anything.

Ending a pass

On a pass from your room, Returned closes it when the student is back: one click, no confirmation. On a layover it shows once the destination has sent the student back. A one-way pass has no button for you: it ends when the destination marks Arrived. A student who checks back in at your kiosk ends the pass too, whichever comes first. People with Pass site administration have End on every pass at their site; it asks to confirm and takes no reason. When the time limit runs out, the pass ends on its own as System Ended and you get a bell notification. It stays ended: a check-in at the kiosk afterwards finds no pass, and the student gets the destinations. Closed passes are under Show, Ended. A pass that has started is never cancelled or deleted.

Your kiosk code

The Kiosk chip at the top of your dashboard carries your eight-digit code. Type it on the classroom Chromebook whenever the kiosk page opens, such as after a restart; the device stays signed in as long as that page stays open. The number inside the screen icon is how many devices are showing the kiosk right now (a hidden kiosk tab drops off at once and comes back when it is shown again; closing the kiosk tab signs that device out); clicking the icon opens the kiosk in a new tab. If you are assigned to a location with its own kiosk (a library, an office), the chip has a menu to switch between My Room and that kiosk, and it remembers your pick. There is no sign-out on the device itself: to sign a device out, close the kiosk tab or restart the Chromebook. The circular arrow beside the code regenerates it and signs out every device on the old one; use it if the code got out. People with Pass site administration can also end one device at a time under Manage, Kiosks. You never type your suite password or Google sign-in on the kiosk. Leave the code for a substitute; people with Pass site administration can also look it up under Manage, Kiosks.

Chimes and settings

The dashboard chimes with a rising run when a pass arrives on your list: one starts at your kiosk, you issue one, one is sent to your room, or someone schedules an appointment on your room. The same run falls when a student is coming back to you: they check back in at your kiosk, or a layover sends them back toward your room. One low note twice means a pass reached its limit without the student checking back in. If someone with Pass site administration turns chimes on for appointment events (that turns their bell on too), an appointment on your room changing or a reminder plays the rising run, and an appointment you scheduled that was not started plays the low double note, anywhere in Pass. Browsers allow sound once you have clicked anywhere on the site in that browser session; if a dashboard stays silent, click it once. The speaker button on your dashboard mutes chimes; the chime sound itself is picked in Settings under the Pass section. Someone with Pass site administration decides which events may chime at all; each pass chimes by the settings of its own school.
